Deck #3

Home Up

So, with deck #2 mostly finished it was time to start in on the third (and final) deck in the project.  I was still living in my own little fantasy land that we wouldn't have to move as much dirt for this deck as we did for #2.  Boy was I ever wrong.  Not only was there more to move but as we move across the hillside it gets more rocky and clay.  We are SO tired of digging!

We've got some of the hole dug for the piers.  We're down about 2 1/2 feet on the left top corner.
Finally we got all of the holes dug and the blocks in cement.  Note the dirt still has to come out between the beams to get the joists on top.
We've got the framing started, we had to build it out of position and move it in after it was built to get the nails in on the wall side.
Here's the framing done and in position for decking.
I couldn't resist putting in a shot of the rocks.  These are not all of them.  Diane has started scattering the big ones around on the hillside.  We also used gobs of them in the french drain up next to the wall.

So why exactly did we BUY the rocks to make the wall?
